Having successfully established Tom’s Kitchen in Chelsea and at Somerset House, British chef Tom Aikens has moved out east – great news for the financial fixers and urbanites of Canary Wharf.
However, it’s not only the Michelin star winning chef that’s attracting attention. Recently shortlisted for the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, Tom’s Kitchen Canary Wharf is also hosting an exclusive event as part of Restaurant & Bar Design Week (28th July – 3rd August 2014).

On Tuesday 29th July, Tom Aikens and Michaelis Boyd architect Ben Masterton-Smith will co-host a ‘Design Bites’ Q&A session to explain the key design objectives and how the design brief was created, challenged and achieved.
Michaelis Boyd Associates, who worked on the Chelsea and Somerset House restaurants, was the first port of call as Aikens explains; “We want to work with someone who understands the needs and requirements of our restaurant but also our brand.”

Inspiration for the project came from French bistros and Aikens cooking, resulting in a warm, comfortable and relaxed environment.
While the restaurants colour palette, materials and atmosphere reflect the successful flagship, Tom’s Kitchen Canary Wharf has a distinctly modern feel impart due to the challenging long and narrow space.
Clever use of space, white glazed tiles, soft coloured leather and chevron wood make for a welcoming restaurant and bar.

“My favourite part of the design is always going to be the open-plan kitchen as it just lends to giving a better atmosphere to the overall kitchen and feel,” says Aikens.
